DCM Policies

  • All lessons are by appointment.
  • A one-time registration fee of $15 will be applied at the time of registration.
  • Lesson fees do not include teaching materials such as books or instruments.
  • All lesson fees are due, in full, on the first lesson of each month/term. Payments can be made by cheque, e-transfers and credit card via the Student Portal. NSF cheques will incur a $45 fee.
  • Accounts that are 15 days past due incur an automatic $10 late payment fee. Accounts that are 30 days past due are subject to suspension of lessons.
  • In the event of an overdue invoice, DCM reserves the right to charge the credit card on file for the outstanding balance.
  • We hold the right to provide a substitute teacher if your regular teacher is unavailable.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions requiring the cancellation of lessons, students will be contacted by email. Please also check our social media for updates. Lessons cancelled due to power outages or weather conditions will be rescheduled.
  • We reserve the right to withdraw a student from lessons based on lack of interest, poor attitude and/or behaviour, numerous missed lessons, unpaid lesson fees or difficult parents.

Lesson Cancellations

  • All cancellations must be made through the Student Portal a minimum of 24 hours before the lesson to ensure the teacher is notified and their schedule is updated.
  • Cancelled lessons will be automatically converted into make-up lesson credits.
  • Make-up lessons cannot replace or be credited toward regularly scheduled lessons.
  • Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be marked as “Absent – No Make-up Lesson.”
  • To cancel a lesson without charges or requiring a make-up lesson, notice must be given a minimum of two weeks prior to the end of the previous month (e.g., to cancel a lesson in June, notice must be given two weeks before the end of May).
  • Each student may receive up to five (5) make-up lesson credits per term. (Term 1: September–January, Term 2: February–June). These are in addition to any lessons rescheduled by the teacher.
  • It is the responsibility of the parent/student to book make-up lessons through the Student Portal Calendar.
  • Make-up lessons must be completed within 150 days of the original lesson date. If no time is available with the assigned teacher, the make-up lesson may be scheduled with another teacher.
  • Unused make-up lesson credits automatically expire 150 days from the original lesson date, including during any temporary break from lessons.
  • Please note: While we do our best to accommodate make-up lessons, frequent cancellations may make it difficult for teachers to reschedule lessons within the available time frame.
  • When a teacher cancels a lesson (e.g., due to illness, university exams, or other unavoidable circumstances), the lesson will be rescheduled and the teacher will coordinate make-up lessons on a case-by-case basis.

STOPPING LESSONS

  • A minimum of four weeks’ notice is required to pause or discontinue lessons, and the DCM Discontinuance Form must be submitted to initiate the withdrawal process.
  • Full Term payments made at a discounted rate will be recalculated at the monthly payment rate, with any remaining fees refunded beginning the following month.
  • Any unused make-up credits will be considered forfeited.
