Dundas Children’s Choir

Welcome to Dundas Children’s Choir (DCC)

Dundas Children’s Choir welcomes children of all experience levels, from beginner to diva! No prior musical training is needed. Our unique teaching approach combines learning by ear with reading music, helping young singers develop strong technical skills alongside a natural feel for the music.

Growing Since 2022

Founded in the fall of 2022, DCC has quickly become a vibrant community of young singers. This year, the choir is expanding and will be divided into two groups to better serve different age ranges: JK to Grade 2 (Junior group), and Grades 3 and up (Senior group).

What We Offer

Under the direction of Dr. Lara Housez, DCC meets weekly for one hour to explore music that is beautiful, fun, and rewarding. Our singers build important musicianship skills including healthy vocal technique, sight-singing, pitch accuracy, and harmonizing with others.

Testimonials

Our boys come home from singing in the Dundas Children’s Choir with huge smiles and singing all the songs they are learning. Dr. Lara Housez is a fantastic artistic director with a wealth of musical knowledge. She makes practise fun, engaging and relevant for young musicians. Lara brings her passion for music and selects a wide range of repertoire creating an appreciation of a variety of musical genres. We are so lucky to have such a talented musician teaching the next generation of singers in the Dundas community. We would highly recommend the Dundas Children’s Choir for any child looking to sing in a choir and develop a love of music.

We wanted to share what a wonderful experience we had with the choir last year. Ren has always enjoyed theatre and performing and, when he got some audition feedback about working on vocal skills, we looked for a space where he could build both skills and confidence. Hearing positive feedback about the Dundas Children’s Choir, he decided to give it a try and he enjoyed the heck out of it. There was always a wide variety of songs to work with so he didn’t get bored, and the opportunity to perform a few times through the year was a highlight (for him and for us!). Dr. Lara has a calm and fun approach, and she really knows what music will keep the kids interested. She also makes sure everyone has an opportunity to shine, whether it is a solo or small group performance, or introducing the choir and song selections at performances. It was truly a wonderful experience and we will be back!
